Nothing delights an angler more than catching hold of a big mahseer.The excitement and the adrenaline rush that the whole process gives him is inexplicable.
The Maharana Pratap Sagar or the pong dam lake is one of the biggest and best sites that holds some really big mahseers in its waters.Apart from plenty other variety of fish,the golden mahseer is what the anglers specifically look forward to catching up.
Apart from the huge reservoir that holds millions of cusecs of water,the overflow area of beyond the dam wall acts as a perfect place for the hideout of mahseer.The area around sthana(a small village),that is nestled right across the dam,has plenty of moving water with some small rapids and water algae and hence acts as a perfect hideout for mahseer.
The size of the masheer found here can be as small as 2kgs and may go upto 14-18 kgs.
A person who wants to do angling and fishing here in the reservoirs needs to get a permit made from the fisheries department at a cost of Rs 100/- per person per day.The department is located right on the dam mouth towards the himachal side.
